HP iPAQ 3100 Take Apart Directions

IPAQ 31xx Repair Guide

Step 1 - Using a T6 Torx remove the 4 screws on the back of the unit.
Step 2 - After the 4 screws have been removed you will be able to lift the back cover off. Start lifting down by the connector first. Make sure not to lift the cover all the way off since the battery is attached
Step 3 - With the cover lifted up but not all the way off you will be able to see the battery connected to the motherboard. Lift the battery connector up off the motherboard.
Step 4 - If you are only removing the battery then you are done. The battery is glued to the back cover and just needs to be removed.

If you are removing the screen goto the next step.
Step 5 - You are now going to remove the connector cables from the motherboard. There are 3 total two in step 5 and one in step 6.

Top Picture There are two tabs that need to be gently pulled half way out. DO NOT pull them all the way out. Once they are half way out the ribbon cable will slide out.

Bottom Picture This ribbon is just pressure fit into the socket. Gently pull it out of the socket.
Step 6 - There are two tabs that need to be pulled half way out. DO NOT pull them all the way out. Once they are half way out you will be able to slide the ribbon cable out.
Step 7 - At this point the motherboard can flip up. There is still a wire attached (SEE Arrow) at the bottom so be careful. There is a small black bracket that holds the screen down. Use a small phillips screw driver and remove the two screws which will then allow you to lift the bracket out.
Step 8 - Now with the bracket out you can gently remove the complete screen from the unit.
Step 9 - This picture shows you the 3 main parts of the unit. The screen is now out and if you need to repair the digitizer/touch panel please follow those directions separately in the direction section.
